TFS en Fête! — this year’s aptly named Welcome Back Barbecue – was held on Friday, September 25 after the Terry Fox Spirit Day activities. Clearly, this autumn get-together has become a much-anticipated annual tradition. With the RSVPs topping 1,000, and with more senior students in attendance this year than ever before, you could say it has become a signature hit for all ages.

La p’tite école parents (Jardin d’eveil and Grade 1) Vivien Kwok and Eric Tam have found in TFS a warm, diverse and inclusive environment for their children. Both originally from Hong Kong, Vivien was raised in Montreal and Eric in Toronto. Their daughters Émilie and Valérie are benefiting from enriched cultural environments both at home and at school.

Entrance Scholarships: Offering a World of Possibilities

Some of our most successful TFS graduates have been scholarship recipients – exceptional students who would not have been able to attend TFS otherwise. “My parents were both well-educated professionals, but being new immigrants there was no way we would have been able to afford an independent school education, so it was not even a remote possibility. When I won a scholarship to attend TFS it opened a new world to me,” explains Dr. Sarandeep Sonu Gaind, today one of Canada’s most respected psychiatrists and a recent recipient of Le Prix de distinction des anciens élèves de TFS.

As a member of the school’s fourth graduating class and the mother of two TFS alumnae, Nancy is passionate about linking the school’s past to its present and future. “I believe in the story of the school and I have watched it evolve, constantly becoming a better version of itself,” she says.

Winter’s chill was no match for the warmth and goodwill generated in the Senior School Penturn Library on the evening of January 27, 2015, where the annual reception for Le cercle des philanthropes, our school’s donor recognition society, took place. Each year this casual and friendly reception is held to recognize and appreciate our TFS family of donors for their generosity and support during the previous year.

TFS was founded by parents, Harry and Anna Giles, who started the bilingual school in their home because they wanted to offer their children educational opportunities that would reflect Canada’s two languages and many cultures. It is that fearlessness and an insatiable curiosity that Bill Webb and Agnes Wong are elated to see in their two children, James and Stephen.
